中大樹木計劃發起人之一,著名植物學家胡秀英博士於二零一二年五月二十二日與世長辭
為紀念胡博士在植物學研究方面的成就,香港電台安排重播《傑出華人系列之胡秀英》,
胡老師最寶貴、最優秀的遺產,就是熱愛大自然花草樹木,熱愛生命各從其類。
胡老師自己克勤克儉,但對人從不吝嗇,盡心盡力相助,總是恩待人,
她樹立的榜樣,愛心,熱心和耐心,就是遺留給她後人最好的禮物。

中大樹木計劃做了甚麼?
*2008-2010 經過三年搜集數據,拍攝過萬張照片,建立了中大樹木計劃及綠色生活網站其中包括以下項目。
*中大樹木研習徑、大學本部樹木地圖和崇基、新亞、聯合、逸夫等六種樹木地圖
*20個podcasts短片及聲帶
*中大樹木192 種,雀鳥133種的圖片數據庫
*2012年建立了網上中大樹app , 中大app 免費供iphone ipad 下載。
*組織義工給樹木掛上 192 種 QR code 樹牌,連結網上圖片數據庫。讓人們利用智能手機及iPad等,現場即時得到文字、圖片、聲音的解說,善用流動學習Mobile Learning。
*以中長期的中大樹木雀鳥 --- 科學與藝術圖畫攝影展,配合定期的校園樹木導賞和觀鳥活動等自然通識教育,提供學校內外人士參加。更以樹鳥蝶之科學與藝術展覽帶到各學校,帶到各社區巡迴展出,配合講座。
*校內活動有:
主辦樹木、雀鳥、蝴蝶生態展覽及講座分享會、電影欣賞。
提供書院通識教育課程、綠色生活講座、賞樹觀鳥、攤位遊戲等活動。
服務校內各書院、新亞、崇基、聯合、逸夫、利和聲書院、中大教育學院、藝術主任行政辦公室、校園規劃及可持續發展處,人事部、傳訊及公共關係處、物業管理處、學生會、樂步行、校友日、校慶、校友會、環保大使計劃,及三次樹木研討會等。
*校外活動:
親自走到社區提供以上活動,給國內外及香港社會團體、媒體、學校、以作交流。此外又舉辦了全港學校樹木攝影比賽,樹木繪畫比賽,生態電影欣賞,參觀華南植物園,深圳仙湖植物園等。
已參加過活動的校外的,國內外的,學校和團體超過五十個,有部份學校更多次參加。從年齡九十歲的長者到幾歲的幼稚園生,乃至歲半的嬰孩都在大自然中得到樂趣。

Objectives
1. To help to build the campus as a botanical garden for public enjoyment and nature education
2. To popularize knowledge of the rich flora on campus by scientific signage
3. To strengthen the sense of belonging of the alumni, staff, and students of CUHK
4. To raise eco-awareness with the corporate support of Hang Seng - Green Bank

* Holding tree-tagging volunteer exercises
* Assisting the Walk for Health campaigns
* Facilitating CU tree seminars on campus
* Building a database for CU tree trail
* Organizing tree talks and tree walks for CU alumni, faculties, and students

Dr. S. Y. Hu, Senior Advisor (1910 - 2012). We call for your support of the CU Tree Project on behalf of our late Senior Advisor, Dr. S.Y. Hu, a respected scholar and botanist of international renown. Dr. Hu passed away on 22 May 2012. To commemorate her great achievements and contributions to our understanding of plants, Radio Television Hong Kong decided to re-cast a 45-minute program on Dr. Hu as part of their Distinguished Overseas Chinese and made it available on the Internet at http://rthk.hk/#4
We believe the best way to pay back is to pass on the knowledge and love of plants Dr. Hu had inspired in us with the CU Tree Project.

What has the CU Tree Project achieved?
*Four years of research on campus flora from 2008 to 2012 and taken over 10,000 photos of trees and plants at CUHK
*Set up the CU Tree Project and Green Education Working Group
*Designed CU Tree Walk and plotted six tree maps including those of the University Main Campus, Chung Chi, New Asia, Shaw College and United Campus
*Produced 20 podcasts and audios of trees on campus
*Found 192 species of trees, 133 species of birds and set up photo databases of them
*Produced online Apps of CU Trees and CU Birds in mid-2012
*Organized volunteers to tag 192 species of trees with QR codes and linked them to the photo databases so that users could use their smart phones or iPads to access the descriptions, photos, oral interpretations, and even sounds of the birds or trees on site as part of their Mobile Learning.
*Hosted Exhibitions on the Science and Art of Trees, Birds, and Butterflies with matching tree walks, bird watching tours, seminars and other green activities for general education and liberal studies for students and visitors.
*Delivered road shows and lectures on the Science and Art of Trees, Birds, and Butterflies to schools in Hong Kong
Activities Conducted within the University
Organized, seminars, talks, on the trees, birds, and butterflies, eco-documentary film shows, designed courses for College General Education, lectures, tree walks, games stalls, etc for different colleges including Chung Chi, New Asia, United College, Shaw College, and Lee Woo Sing College, CPRO, EMO, AAO, Alumni Associations, Student Bodies, Walk for Health, Alumni Homecoming, College Anniversaries, ESA Programme, Department of Geography and Resource Management, Estates Management Office, and Campus Planning and Sustainability Office, and helped to organize three regional seminars on tree management in 2009, 2010, and 2011.
Activities Conducted outside the University
Organized community outreach activities for the University community and exchanges with outside bodies, NGOs, media, and schools in Hong Kong and Mainland China.
Organized a territory-wide CU Tree Photo Competition in 2010, tree drawing competition, eco-film shows and visits the South China Botanic Garden in Guangzhou and The Fairy Lake Botanic Garden in Shenzhen.
More than 50 organizations took part in these activities. Some of these organizations joined more than once. They include people of all ages from toddlers of one and a half years old to ninety-years-old took part and shared the joy of Nature with each other.
